Series: Ruby Red #2
Also in this series: Ruby Red
Released by Henry Holt on 5 January 2010
Genres: Science Fiction
Gwen’s life has been a rollercoaster since she discovered she was the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve. In between searching through history for the other time-travelers and asking for a bit of their blood (gross!), she’s been trying to figure out what all the mysteries and prophecies surrounding the Circle really mean.
At least Gwen has plenty of help. Her best friend Lesley follows every lead diligently on the Internet. James the ghost teaches Gwen how to fit in at an eighteenth century party. And Xemerius, the gargoyle demon who has been following Gwen since he caught her kissing Gideon in a church, offers advice on everything. Oh, yes. And of course there is Gideon, the Diamond. One minute he’s very warm indeed; the next he’s freezing cold. Gwen’s not sure what’s going on there, but she’s pretty much destined to find out.
After I finished Ruby Red I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I would be. I thought I would LOVE these books, because they were about time travel, and the covers just looked amazing. Unfortunately, I thought the story wasn’t that much about time travel, and it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be. Still, I decided to read Sapphire Blue, hoping it would be more exciting – but honestly I didn’t really think it was that much different from Ruby Red.
It was mostly Gwen traveling back in time almost every day, and her and Gideon sometimes traveling back together and I don’t know, it just didn’t feel exciting at all. I am really hoping the last book will be FILLED with action and that I will love it, but I am afraid that might not happen.
I did still like the writing, it was very simple and easy to read, I got through it pretty quickly (not as quickly as I thought I would, but there was a sort of reading slump thingy going on). But honestly the story was just a bit boring and the easy writing didn’t make up for the kind of boring story.
So yeah, I will read the last book, Emerald Green, but I am not really expecting a lot of it to be honest. I will also try to watch the movie of the first book, if I can find the English version, because I am very curious. But alas, this book series is not what I had expected.
