Last week I received my Fairyloot box for August, themed Let The Games Begin. The box promised items inspired by An Ember in the Ashes, Hunting Prince Dracula, Nevernight, Scythe, Aurora Rising and Harry Potter. So plenty of books I had read, and a couple I haven’t, but hey if they’re useful items I’ll be content!
I was very much looking forward to this box because this was the first box where I knew what book would be inside and I was excited to see the Fairyloot edition of this book!
From this moment onward, there will be spoilers for the box!
The first item in the box was this metal bookmark inspired by Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. It features an image of Mia Corvere and a cutout of Mr. Kindly. I, unfortunately, didn’t love this book and DNF-ed it, but I love this bookmark and have been using it since I’ve received it! The bookmark was created by Taratjah.
The second item is the one I immediately gave away (hence the different picture style) because it was a bath bomb and I don’t use the bath so it would have been useless for me. Luckily, it was my sister’s birthday the day I received the box so I had another present to give to her! The bath bomb was inspired by the golden egg from Goblet of Fire and was created by Little Heart Gifts. (Just a note, Fairyloot have mentioned this will be the last Harry Potter item featured at least for this year, and none of the profits went to that trash fire).
Then I found this pin, inspired by Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, a book I loved. I also really love the pin, because the colours give me such an ace vibe and the quote is 100% relatable. It was created by Iron and Ink Designs.
Also included in this box was this hardcover notebook, inspired by Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco, another book I haven’t read (and also don’t know for sure if I want to read). But I am always a sucker for a good notebook and this one is a nice and pretty hardcover one that hopefully will last me a while! The outside was created by Noverantale and the image on the inside (which I forgot to take a picture of) was created by Taratjah.
Then there was this round magnet inspired by Scythe by Neal Shusterman – a book I really loved (and a series I should finish…). I used to not love magnets because I had no use for them, but now that I have a TBR cart, I can put all my magnets on there! The magnet was designed by Taratjah.
Lastly, before the paper items and the book, there is this gorgeous book sleeve, designed by Monolimeart and inspired by An Ember in the Ashes. One side features Laia and the other side has Elias on it and honestly, this is one of the most gorgeous pieces of art I’ve ever owned omg.
The paper items in the box were the monthly tarot cards – this time featuring Mia and Mr. Kindly from Nevernight and created by Katherine Britt. There is, of course, the author letter with art on the other side (though the spoiler card doesn’t say who created it) and the monthly spoiler card and matching bookmark.
The book for August was Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar and honestly, this is one of the prettiest books I own. I am in love with the sprayed edges (which are shimmery, but that doesn’t show well on the picture). The cover is just the regular cover, but the sprayed edges just make this book so much prettier. The art on the reverse of the dust jacket is beautiful as well, created by bxromance. According to the spoiler card, this book is Stardust (by Neil Gaiman) meets Hindu mythology and I am so up for that! I might add it to my TBR for October, but we’ll see when we get to that month!
So that’s the August box for Fairyloot, I have to say my favourite item is definitely the book sleeve and the book itself. What is your favourite item?
