In 2016: Events I am Going to
Today it’s the 31st of December. The last day of the year. The last day of the Best of the Year posts. I really enjoyed writing these posts, and I will certainly be doing it again next year. Today I will talk about the six events happening in 2016 that I am looking forward to the most. And of course, we’ll start with ‘The most wonderful time of the year’. And no, it’s not Christmas, it’s…
HobbitCon VIER (First weekend of April)
This year, it won’t be in the Easter weekend, because apparently people complained about how they couldn’t spend time with their loved ones? Which makes me think – don’t go to Hobbitcon then?! The organisers decided to do it the week after, and start it a day sooner. So this year, HobbitCon will be from Friday to Sunday, which I don’t really mind. It’s what they do with RingCon too, and that worked out fine for everyone.
I think this year might be the last HobbitCon though, because I heard that they were planning on fusing HobbitCon and RingCon together to one big Fantasy convention. While I think it’s a shame, I understand it. We’ll just have to make this last HC the best party ever!
Most of my friends are going, and this will be the year that I will actually make all of my outfits myself. Or at least most of it. I am planning on cosplaying Tilda (one of Bard’s daughters), Nessa (dúh) and a hobbit with a(n almost) self-made bodice! Yay!
Civil War Premiere
I’ve been to premieres before; one when I was younger (The Grinch), and two quite recently (with Daniel Radcliffe attending one, and Alan Rickman attending the other). I really enjoyed them, but I really want to go to a premiere of a movie that I will certainly love. So two friends of mine and I are planning on going to the Civil War premiere. Because we all love Marvel very much, and I thought it might be nice to make that my first actual premiere (in another country).
I’ll definitely be cosplaying Wanda Maximoff, though I am not sure which outfit I am going to do. I might make her Civil War outfit, but it’ll probably be her iconic Age of Ultron outfit. I really really hope Lizzy Olsen will be there! *fingers crossed*
Dutch Comic Con
I really liked going to DCC this year, and I hope that next year will be just as good (or perhaps better, because there were some things that they could have improved). I have heard the hall will be bigger, so I hope that the problem of the lights (or the lack of lights) will be fixed too. And I hope they’ll announce a couple more cool stars, because so far – the only ones I am interested in are Hanna and Hilly Hindi from the Hillywood Show.
Cosplaywise, I am thinking Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Maybe a comic version of Wanda, maybe just the (hopefully improved) Age of Ultron outfit. And I am doing a female verison of Pietro on the other day with hopefully my best friend as Wanda (otherwise I’ll just find random Wanda’s and drop dead right in front of them…. That was rude, wasn’t it?)
Elfia in either Haarzuilens or Arcen
This year I went to both Elfia’s, the one in Haarzuilens which was rainy, but really enjoyable. And then we went to Arcen for one day (because it was too far away to go both days) and had a lot more fun. It was less rainy than in Haarzuilens, but we still had a lot of fun. So I am definitely planning on going again next year, if it’s a convenient date at least. Otherwise we’ll just go to…
Castlefest in Lisse
I don’t know how I never went to Castlefest before. It’s not too far away from where I live, and it’s really cool. It’s like Elfia, a huge terrain full of people in costumes, music, food and stalls where you can buy all kinds of things. We mostly spent the days sitting in the grass, talking to each other, making pictures and weird selfies and that is exactly what I enjoy about these festivals.
In 2015 I cosplayed Wanda Maximoff, Wanda from Fairly Odd Parents and a hobbit; and because it’s so far away, I don’t know what I am going to cosplay yet, but maybe (if I manage to make it look pretty) I’ll bring Tilda.
Best of YA Event
When I first heard about this event, I thought ‘yeah why not go there, I need to go to more bookish events’. And then some authors got announced and I knew I HAD to go. But I just had to find someone who wanted to come with me. A friend of mine then told me she was coming too, and we bought tickets (and got the same workshop without even talking about it beforehand, yay). I can’t wait for this event, because some of my FAVOURITE authors are coming! Ransom Riggs! Tahereh Mafi! Stephanie Perkins! Gods I am so so so excited for this!
… And that is the end of it. The BOTY posts are over. I quite enjoyed them, and I can’t wait to see what they’ll look like next year!
