Behind the Scenes

Also known as ‘National Novel Writing Month’, NaNoWriMo. I believe most of you have heard of it already, but in case you haven’t here’s a short explanation. In November of every year, thousands of people across the world will start their novels. They pledge themselves to write 50.000 words by the end of the month, and write at least a passage each day. I have been telling myself that I will enter for years, but I never really did it.

Why not, you ask? Because I never finish anything. Not a story, not an idea, not even a chapter, not ever. I am extremely bad at finishing my stories, because I often get distracted or I get a new idea that doesn’t fit into this story, so then I start a new story. I believe I have about 50+ story ideas just piling up in my Documents folder screaming at me to finish them.

I am also that person that – if I get stuck somewhere in the story – I start over again from the beginning and start rewriting the story until I get to that same part and get stuck all over again. Sometimes I rename my characters, give them a new hobby or a new love interest, sometimes I just change the entire plot but keep the same characters.

I am going to try to participate in NaNoWriMo this year, but I don’t think I am going to get close to those 50.000 words. Anyway, wish me luck!
