When Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's Mightiest Heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans.
I don’t remember when I saw the first movie, probably not so long after it came out on DVD, but I found myself rather disappointed. I did like seeing all the heroes together, but the movie just didn’t grab me. And that while I actually got goosebumps while watching the trailer. Since then, I have watched (almost) all the other Marvel movies, and gotten more into the Marvel fandom. I decided to go to the Avengers marathon just because I wanted to see the first movie again, and of course to see the second one – Age of Ultron. And I have to say, I liked the second one better.
In Age of Ultron, the group (Tony Stark (Downey Jr), Steve Rogers (Evans), Bruce Banner (Ruffalo), Natasha Romanoff (Johansson), Thor Odinson (Hemsworth) and Clint Barton (Renner)) have to fight Ultron (Spader), a peacekeeping program created by Tony and Bruce that went haywire, and is now trying to destroy the world. They meet Wanda (Olsen) and Pietro (Taylor-Johnson) Maximoff, and we see a lot of characters from other movies as well!
This movie was packed with action, like with the previous one, but for some reason this one was just a lot more fun to watch. Maybe it’s because I have seen all the Marvel movies now, maybe it’s because of the Maximoff twins (whom I loved almost immediately after seeing them in the trailers), I have no idea but I just loved this movie more. I especially liked the fact that even though they are fighting these creatures, they still make time to save as many civilians as possible. Even if it means they would take the shot, they will do their best to save everyone, and that just made me feel a lot better about these movies. I’ve heard from people that this didn’t happen in the new Superman movie, I can’t be the judge of that seeing as I haven’t seen it, but yeah.. If that’s true then I am happy I’m a Marvel fan rather than a DC fan.
I loved seeing old characters from other movies (Rhody from Iron Man, Falcon from The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury and Maria Hill, even some surprising characters that I HAD NOT EXPECTED TO SEE!), and I loved meeting new ones; including Wanda and Pietro (oh god I love them so much), Vision and a character (whose name I have forgotten, oops sorry) played by Andy Serkis who is one of my favourite actors of all time. Of course Stan Lee had a cameo in this movie and I have to say that this is my favourite cameo so far (with the one from Big Hero Six in second place).View Spoiler »There was a bit of romance happening – between Natasha and Bruce – in this movie, which I wasn’t a huge fan of. I don’t hate it, but I just don’t get where it came from all of a sudden. Honestly I had fully expected Natasha to have a thing with Clint, but he turned out to have THIS ADORABLE LITTLE FAMILY ON A FARM AND OH MY GOD. But the Bruce/Natasha thing is not really one of my favourite things in this movie to be honest. « Hide Spoiler
Though I personally felt like the story line of this movie was almost the same as the previous one (bad guy starts effing shit up, Avengers come in to defeat the bad guy, the Hulk goes crazy and wrecks stuff and there is a big battle near the end of the movie where they destroy a city), I did think this movie was just more interesting than the first. Probably because the Avengers felt more like a team this time, instead of just people who were thrown together because they were needed together. And probably also because the villain in this movie wasn’t someone we already knew. I enjoyed every minute of this movie, and I will definitely watch it again (hopefully in the cinema, but otherwise I’ll just wait for the DVD to come out).
So yeah, I really enjoyed The Avengers: Age of Ultron, I thought it was a better movie than the first Avengers movie. I loved the characters, the story line, the romantic parts maybe not so much (but hey I’ve never been a sucker for romance). I loved the new characters and I just LOVED THIS MOVIE OK. If you’ve seen the previous Avengers movie, go and see Age of Ultron. If you have never seen a Marvel movie, what is your problem? Go and watch them all and then watch Age of Ultron!
