Two days ago I went to a Hunger Games marathon in preparation for the third movie, Mockingjay part one. It was nice seeing the first two movies again, especially since I haven’t really been watching the first one that much since Catching Fire came out (because honestly, CF was a lot better than THG). At a little past midnight, we got to see Mockingjay; after a couple of problems, as usual (it always happens at that cinema during either a midnight premiere or a special screening, that something happens to the movie). But at ten past twelve, the movie finally started, and we finally got to see it! I’ll say it right from the start, I LOVED IT. I think it’s the best one yet.

Let’s talk about the actors first; all the people we’d seen in the previous two movies were amazing of course.. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, etc etc. They were all amazing; but I mainly want to talk about the new additions. Natalie Dormer as Cressida (whose name is pronounced completely different from what I expected), Julianne Moore as President Coin, Wes Chatham and Elden Henson as Castor and Pollux, and Mahershala Ali as Boggs. I really liked all of them and I thought they were all very well cast. I think out of these my favourites were definitely Castor and Pollux. Oh, and there was Stef Dawson as Annie Cresta of course – we didn’t saw much of her in this movie, but I really liked her!

Like I said before, I thought Mockingjay part one was the best movie in the series yet (because I think part two will be just as good or perhaps even better), and here’s why: Book Accuracy. A lot of the things that happened/were said in this movie were almost directly taken from the book. Of course there were some minor differences; like Effie being in District 13, and some scenes involving President Snow that gave us a bit more insight on what happened on the other side, but I liked that (Effie is one of my favourite characters, and I just love how Elizabeth Banks plays her so I was thrilled to hear she’d be in the movie!). But wow this movie was so amazingly accurate, it almost hurt!

The action scenes were all amazing, I especially loved the scenes in District 8, where they went to the hospital and then afterwards when the bombers from the Capitol came in and destroyed it. The propo that they shot right after the hospital was destroyed gave me chills, and that whole scene just made me sob a little bit. Speaking about having chills, by the way, The Hanging Tree. It’s in the movie, and sung by Jennifer Lawrence, and it’s beautiful and haunting and it gave me the biggest chills I have ever had. I’ve had the song stuck in my head ever since the movie ended, and I just really want to have it on my computer (but I think the soundtrack won’t be released until after the movie is released in America).

Anyway, the movie was amazing, and I am happy to say that I correctly guessed where the movie would end, which I will tell you underneath a spoiler tag. So if you don’t want to know where the movie ends before you see it, do NOT read the following lines. View Spoiler »

If you loved the previous two movies, you should definitely watch Mockingjay; if you weren’t a fan of the previous two movies, you should DEFINITELY watch Mockingjay. Just watch it. Okay?
