Today the (teaser) trailer for the new Hobbit movie, Desolation of Smaug came out. I was a bit afraid that it might be an extended version of the ‘trailer’ we saw at the end of the Hobbit livestream, that happened in March, not long after An Unexpected Journey came out on DVD, but this trailer has none of the footage that I’ve seen at the livestream, but completely new footage, which is awesome!
This trailer shows us the elves of Mirkwood, with of course Thranduil and Legolas (!!!!), and Tauriel (who wasn’t in the book, but neither was Legolas). And honestly, I think she’s a bamf. It also shows us a bit of Gandalf and Radagast going to Dol Guldur, the fortress that Radagast went to in AUJ, where we’ll probably ‘meet’ the Necromancer. We also see a bit of the barrel scene, a bit more of Erebor, and of course…. SMAUG!
I was really excited when we got a good look at the dragon, Smaug, because that’s what the movie is about of course. There was only one part about this whole trailer that I didn’t like, and that was the part where we get a glimpse of the giant spiders that live in Mirkwood. I am really scared of spiders, and I think I might ‘watch’ that part with my eyes closed in the cinema.
I can’t wait for the movie, which won’t come out until 12 December, unfortunately, oh well. It’s worth the wait!
