Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag
A while back I found this book tag on Tumblr and decided I wanted to fill it in on my blog as well. I don’t remember whose blog I got it from, but the original tag was created by ReadLikeWildfire and Ely Jayne on YouTube, so check them out! Okay, let’s go.
Books read so far: 52
Goal for 2016: 100
1. Best book you’ve read so far this year:
Gods, ehm I don’t think I’ll be able to pick just one book, so I’m going to go for my favourite graphic novel ánd favourite book. My favourite graphic novel is definitely Volume 3 of the Ms. Marvel series, Crushed! And book-wise I’m going to have to go for The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater (I’ve read the first three books so far) and Stars Above by Marissa Meyer!
2. The best sequel you’ve read so far this year:
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard! I loved it and I loved how it was so X-Men-y and yeah it’s just really a great book!
3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to:
I kinda feel bad about this, but I still haven’t finished A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I don’t know why exactly, but I think it may have something to do with the sex-scene that happened quite early on in the book. I have read some people saying there was going to be more like that, and that kind of put me off wanting to finish the book. Maybe I’ll pick it up later on in the year, but for now, I’m just not in the mood for that.
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year:
There are so many great books coming out! Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan, Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo… I’ve made a Top Ten Tuesday post about it a while back, so I’m just going to link you to that!
5. Biggest disappointment:
Definitely Asylum by Madeleine Roux. I was so excited for ‘the next Miss Peregrine’s’, but it was not at all what I had expected and I will not pick up the rest of the books in this series, alas. Also the Civil War book kind of fell flat. I was really happy to find out the third Captian America movie was being novelised, but it was just not what I had hoped (and the fact that a huge part of the story was left out because the book came out before the movie was released in America was just such a shame).
6. Biggest surprise:
The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. And I don’t know why I was surprised about enjoying it, but I guess it was just because it’s Riordan’s least popular book series. But I really enjoyed it, though I felt like the main characters should have been older.
7. Favourite new author:
Even though I didn’t love her book, Truthwitch, I am really glad I discovered Susan Dennard. Because I’ve heard so many great things about her books in the past, and I’m happy I finally picked up one of her books. I will be reading more of her, although I am not sure if I’m going to read her previous series (I believe it was about zombies?) or if I’m just going to stick with the Truthwitch series.
8. Newest fictional crush:
Can’t really say it’s a ‘crush’, but since I’ve read X-Factor and X-Men ’92, Gambit has started to grow on me. So much that I am actually very anxious for his upcoming movie because I do. not. like. Channing Tatum playing Gambit sorry not sorry.
9. Newest favourite character:
Okay, I was thinking really long about this question, and eventually, I decided that I didn’t have a new favourite character from a book (though he is in some graphic novels) but ever since watching X-Men: Apocalypse one of my new favourite characters is definitely Kurt Wagner, aka Nightcrawler. He was so cute in the movie and gods I just love him so much!
10. A book that made you cry:
There has been only one book that got me teary-eyed and that is Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater, and I guess people who’ve read the book know which part I mean. View Spoiler »PERSEPHONEEEEHEEEHEEEEEEE *sobs* « Hide Spoiler
11. A book that made you happy:
Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes by
Rick Riordan Percy Jackson, Gods I love this guy so much and this book was just incredible!
12. Favourite book-to-film adaptation you saw so far this year:
Technically it’s a rewatch, but I still love Mockingjay part 2 so so much! As for a movie I’ve seen for the first time this year I’m going to go with The 5th Wave. I really loved the book, and I enjoyed the movie very much as well! It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty close to the book in my opinion!
13. Favourite review you’ve written this year:
Ehm, honestly I don’t have a favourite review that I’ve written. I don’t usually think my own writing is that great, to be honest, and yeah – I actually don’t like writing reviews, because I am that person that can’t really write a review without spoiling stuff.
14. The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year:
Coverwise I am definitely going for Trial by Fire and Firewalker by Josephine Angelini, because they are just gorgeous! Contentwise, I’m choosing Stars Above by Marissa Meyer (which also has a lovely cover by the way).
15. Which books do you really want to read before the end of the year?
- A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
- The Last Star by Rick Yancey
- Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
- The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
- Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
If I’m choosing books that are already out and books I already own, then I am choosing these!
