The last BOTY 2015 post of this year (don’t worry there are three more posts about 2016 coming in the next three days) and it’s about the events I went to. I love going to events where I can cosplay, and this year was also the first couple of bookish events that I went to! I met some cool people, did some really cool things and – obviously – had the time of my life!
Meeting Veronica Roth (4, 5 December)
Six of Crows Release party (31 October)
(I don’t know how to smile on pictures, sorry). Another bookish event, and the first time ever that I met an author! Because of the release of Leigh Bardugo’s new book, the Dutch publisher of Six of Crows decided to organise a release party. And they managed to get Leigh to be there as well! I didn’t know any other people who loved her books as much as I did (or at least, not anyone who wanted to come to the event with me) and my sister wasn’t able to come with me, so I went by myself. I did meet some people at the train station, which was nice!
Because it was Halloween, I dressed up as Wanda Maximoff from Age of Ultron (which Leigh thought was cool <3) and I saw a couple of other people dressed up as well, yay! I got three books signed (my Shadow and Bone book, and two Six of Crows books – one for me and one for my sister), had some nice cake, got a nice goodie bag and had a polaroid picture taken! It was a great night, and I had lots of fun!
HobbitCon Three (3, 4, 5, 6 April)
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” – No I am not talking about Christmas, I am talking about the best event of the year – HobbitCon! Three years ago, my best friend and I decided we would go to this event made especially for the Hobbit because Aidan Turner was attending. Later on, he cancelled, but we still decided to go. We met up with some Dutchies at the McDonalds and became the Dutch party crew with glowsticks and lots of dancing. Every year, our group gets bigger and bigger, and every year we have more and more people with glowsticks and party outfits and just generally crazy things. It’s not really about meeting the actors anymore (though this year they had LUKE. FREAKIN’ EVANS!) it’s about meeting your friends again after such a long time and then pretending we never left the Maritim Hotel in Bonn! (Don’t mind my super tired/ill face on the picture. I am always ill right before/during/after HobbitCon).
Dutch Comic Con (28 March)
When I first heard about Dutch Comic Con, I was really intrigued. I didn’t expect it to be as big as – for example – San Diego Comic Con, and for a while it looked as if it would be one gigantic scam. But eventually, some of the actors that had been announced were saying they were on their way to the Netherlands, and when Osric Chau (Kevin from Supernatural) announced he was on a plane towards my tiny country, I bought my ticket. It was a really nice day, it wasn’t great – it wasn’t the best convention I went to – but it was enjoyable! Osric was a cutie, and I am definitely planning on going both days next year!
Age of Ultron Midnight Premiere/Avengers marathon (21 April)
I wasn’t 100% sure if I really wanted to go to this Avengers marathon, but seeing as I really loved most of the movies Marvel had, I decided to give the Avengers (a movie that I didn’t like) another chance. And because I really wanted to see Age of Ultron. In the end, I loved it – the Avengers was better than the first time (still not my favourite movie though), and Age of Ultron was glorious. I went dressed up as Wanda Maximoff (with my bestie as Natasha Romanoff) and got a really cool poster for that! Two of my friends won the sort of cosplay contest and got a nice goodie bag and one of them gave me their Guardians of the Galaxy and Insurgent poster. They also both had a Thor cap that they had double (they’d gotten one with the poster, while Tanja and I didn’t, and there was one in their goodie bag) so they each gave one to us. Yay!
So those were my five favourite events that I went to! I met a lot of celebrities, did some cosplaying and had great fun at each of these events! I really hope the events I am planning to go to in 2016 will be just as great!
