December used to be Hobbit month for me, for the past three years it was the month in which the Hobbit movies would be released, but this year is the first year without one. Still, there are some great movies coming out this month and I’ve put them all together in this post!
Steve Jobs – 3 December
Cast: Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Michael Stuhlbarg, Katherine Waterston (source: IMDb)
Synopsis: Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution, to paint a portrait of the man at its epicenter. The story unfolds backstage at three iconic product launches, ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac.
Honestly, I mainly wanted to see this because of Michael Fassbender, but I am also interested in hearing about Steve Jobs. Unfortunately, this movie won’t show at our local cinema, so we’ll have to wait until it’s release on DVD. Because we don’t want to go to another cinema where we have to pay for a ticket (I mean, we have a platinum pass for our local cinema, with which we can see unlimited movies for only 19 euros a month, why would we go and pay for a movie? XD)
In The Heart of the Sea – 10 December
Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Ben Wishaw, Cillian Murphy, Charlotte Riley, Brendan Gleeson, Frank Dillane, Benjamin Walker and many more (Source: IMDb)
Synopsis: Based on the 1820 event, a whaling ship is preyed upon by a sperm whale, stranding its crew at sea for 90 days, thousands of miles from home.
Also because of an actor (Hemsworth), but I am also quite interested in the story. I’ve never read the Moby Dick story nor have I watched any movies about it, so I guess this might be a good start. But the unfortunate thing about this is that our cinema only shows it in 3D and I do. not. want. to watch a movie about open water (which I guess this movie mainly happens on) in 3D. So yeah, again, I’ll probably have to either get over my fear of (getting lost on) open water or wait for the DVD. I think the latter will be sooner.
Krampus – 10 December
Cast: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Emjay Anthony, Stefania LaVie Owen, Krista Stadler, and many more (source: IMDb)
Synopsis: A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a Christmas demon to his family home.
According to IMDb this is both a horror movie and a comedy, and I am honestly wondering how they did that. So I guess I’ll just have to see for myself. I only just watched the trailer while making this post, and I really like it. It doesn’t feel too scary, to be honest, so I really hope the rest of the movie isn’t that scary either!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 16 December
Cast: Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, and many more… (source: IMDb)
Synopsis: A continuation of the saga created by George Lucas and set thirty years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983).
A couple of weeks ago, I watched the first two Star Wars movies. While I enjoyed them, I also didn’t really because they were old and I honestly don’t like movies older than me that often (sorry not sorry). So hopefully I will enjoy the newer ones more, and hopefully then I will also enjoy this one. We’ll see!
