Reading Habits Tag

I found this Reading Habits Tag on Oh My Book and went to find the English version of it, so I could fill it in! So here are my answers to the Reading Habits Tag!

1. Do you have a certain place at home to read?

Not really, I just read anywhere I want. In bed, on my desk chair, downstairs on the couch, in the bathroom, on the roof – anywhere. I think I am mostly comfortable in my bed, because there I have a blanket and pillows and a handy little light so I can still see what I’m reading at night!

2. Bookmark or Random piece of paper?

Both I guess. I have a lot of bookmarks, and I do always try to take a bookmark with me, but if I don’t have one with me, or if I can’t find one, I’ll either just put the first flat object I can find in between the pages. Usually a piece of paper, or my phone. Sometimes a pencil or a pen or something like that. Receipts I find in my bag, you know – I use everything.

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter or # pages?

Sometimes I really want to finish at least the page or the chapter, but I can just put it down at a random part and pick it up later again. I do have to reread a couple of sentences to get back into the story, but that’s not really a problem (the opposite of a problem, really). If I really do not like a book (like, I want to DNF it), I usually try to get at least to 50% of the book; and I do really try to finish a chapter.

4. Do you eat or drink while you reading?

Yes both, but I do try to wipe my hands if they’re dirty (and then usually my trousers get the worst of it). If there’s crumbs in between the pages, I just shake them out, it’s not really such a problem in my opinion.

5. Do you watch tv or listen to music while reading?

I listen to movie & TV show scores when I’m reading, I can’t concentrate on a book when there’s singing happening. I also don’t watch TV, nor listen to the radio (my mum does, but she has it on really soft). But I also can’t read when it’s completely silent, I always have my computer or laptop on and that noise is enough for me to be able to read.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

Several at once, mostly because I don’t like reading one book at once. I have a lot of books I still want to read, and I like being able to switch between books. For example when I don’t feel like reading this book, and I can just pick up that book now and read the first one further a couple of days after. Sometimes I also read a graphic novel on the side, because I’m really getting into those!

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Everywhere, anywhere. Of course, reading at home is always better – because you won’t have to get off or on something (a bus, a train); and you won’t have other people to watch out for. But if I have to sit in a train on my own for an hour or so – I always bring a book!

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Personally I really do not like people who read out loud (or even quietly to themselves), and I don’t do it myself. I always read it in my head. If I don’t understand something, I google it or if the book is too difficult to read, I get an audiobook.

9. Do you ever read ahead or skip pages?

No, I never read ahead – because I don’t want to get spoiled. I accidentally had this with Crown of Midnight, when I went to check how many pages it had – and my eyes skimmed the last couple of sentences. So I knew who/what Celaena was before I even finished the book. *sighs* I do sometimes skip pages if I don’t like a certain POV or if I just don’t care about the book anymore (usually before I DNF it).

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I’ve tried so hard, and got so far – but in the end it doesn’t even matter I still broke the spine. To be honest, I don’t really care whether the spine of a book breaks or not. Books need to look as if they’re read, and breaking the spine is part of that. Folded pages, the little layer of plastic that’s over the cover that’s letting to – it’s all part of loving a book! When I borrow a book, I will be very careful, of course.
