In May I found out about this company called My Geek Box that is basically a bit like Nerdblock and Lootcrate. You subscribe and get a box filled with nerdy goodies every month. I had also heard that MGB was having a European exclusive funko pop in June and I got really excited because I love funko pops and an exclusive one is always great. So I decided to subscribe for the June box. I’d read some rumours about what the funko might be and I was really really hoping that would be true. Want to know what the rumours were and whether they were true? Read on…
From here on, there will be spoilers for the My Geek Box, so beware if you still haven’t received yours.
The box arrived at my house like this. In a nice blue box with their logo on it and with those stickers it actually reminded me a bit of Baymax, hahaha! It was shipped between the 15th and 20th of June and it arrived at my house on the 3rd of July, which is a bit late but I live in the Netherlands and the box came from the UK so yeah. My Geek Box always contains a t-shirt and has some other nice nerdy goodies.
This month’s t-shirt was Mutant/X-Men related, which I really like because in June I watched all the old X-Men movies and loved them all, so yeah I am really happy with this t-shirt. Not too thrilled with the colour because I am very bad at keeping a white t-shirt white, but hey it’s X-men, yay!
Then there were these DC buttons, which I am not too happy with because honestly, I do not like DC that much. I’ve seen some unboxings from other people and one girl got Justice League buttons (also DC right?) and another got Marvel buttons. Why didn’t I get Marvel buttons?! Oh well, maybe I’ll find a nice spot for them, on a bag or something.
And then I saw this pack. At first, I thought it was candy or something, but then I saw they were (trading) cards. I opened it and there were about 25 cards in them all with Marvel characters (from Spider-Man characters to X-Men, to Fantastic Four and even some Avengers, wooh!) I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with it, I guess it’s a game but I’ll probably just look at them because they’re pretty.
Then at the bottom, there was this Star Wars mousepad, which honestly I haven’t watched. I probably watched it when I was younger but I don’t really remember anything from it so yeah. This guy, Darth Maul apparently, just reminds me of that creepy guy from Insidious. But hey, mousepads are cool and I could really use one, so I am definitely going to use this.
And then we’ve arrived at the part you’ve all been waiting for… The Funko pop! I had heard a rumour that Quicksilver (either the Days of Future Past version or the Age of Ultron version) was going to be in this box, so I got really excited because I LOVE Pietro and I really want him to be made into a Funko so his sister (Wanda, who is coming out in August or September?) won’t be alone. Were the rumours true? Well…
No, unfortunately, they weren’t. sighs Don’t get me wrong, I really like Cyclops, but honestly there already is a (masked) Cyclops Funko and I don’t really get why there are so many masked and unmasked versions of certain characters. Why do that when you can make more new Funko’s (LIKE QUICKSILVER)?! Oh well, I’m still happy with Cyclops and he’s got a nice spot on my bookshelf, but I am just really going to hope that somewhere in the future Funko will make Quicksilver into a pop. Please, Funko, please!
In the end, I am happy with this box. I like the t-shirt a lot, and the Funko is cool too. Not a fan of DC or Star Wars but hey that’s a risk you take with these boxes, there will always be something that you’re not a fan of! I hope you like this unboxing post, and maybe in the future, I’ll do an actual video of it (it was just too hot this week to actually do anything so ugh).
My Geek Box is available for only 17 pounds a month, with free shipping in the UK and I believe around 7 pounds shipping worldwide (though that price may vary.. Just check out the site). They ship every month between the 15th and the 20th and international shippings usually take around 12 (work)days to arrive. July’s theme is Nemesis. For more information just check out their website!
