Top Ten Books I’d Love To See As Movies/Tv Shows

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the people from the Broke and the Bookish. This week’s subject is your top ten of books that you would LOVE to see as a movie or a TV show. An amazing subject if I may say so, and I have a lot of suggestions; so movie/tv show makers, pay attention! I will try to cast people for characters as well, but it’s been a while since I’ve read these books so I don’t really remember what all the characters look like.. And I will certainly not take age into account.

The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (Movies) – I LOVED this series, and I would love to see it being made into a movie series. With the possibility of Six of Crows being made into movies as well, yes that would be amazing! To see the grisha come to life on screen, to see who would play the Darkling (still rooting for Richard Armitage, shhh) and yes making this into a movie would be AMAZING *hint hint*. Who I’d cast: Apart from Richard Armitage as The Darkling (I know he’s too old to play him, shush), I haven’t really thought about it.

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer (TV show) – I was thinking about how these books would make awesome movies, but then I thought how they would make an even better TV show. Not necessarily a book a season (because the last books are a bit bigger than the first two so that’s a lot more material to work with), but I think that you would have at least four seasons, maybe five, with all the information from the books. If they were to do it right of course. I recently found this thing on Tumblr where someone made this series into a Disney movie, and just look at how awesome this would be?! Who I’d cast: I think maybe Chloe Bennet as Cinder, and honestly I haven’t really thought about any of the other characters really (Natalie Dormer as Levana maybe?).

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas (TV show) – Game of Thrones for young adults? Yeah, that’s basically what I think a lot of people will think when they see ‘Throne of Glass’, but with this TV show we can prove them that TOG is not the same as GOT (though the initials are freakily similar, wow I just noticed that); but that it’s an amazing story with a badass main character and yeah I just want a TOG TV show okay?! Who I’d cast: A while back I saw a post on tumblr with Bob Morley as Chaol and I kind of freaked out because that is perfect? Other than that I haven’t really thought about any of the other characters. Lupita Nyong’o would be awesome Nehemia!

Across the Universe by Beth Revis (Movies) – Movies about space are always a big plus for me. And seeing as I really loved these books, I wouldn’t mind them being made into movies. Even if that would mean a lot of parts would be cut (because come on, let’s get real here, not every little part of the book can be in the movies, that would be IMPOSSIBLE). Who I’d cast: I think Sophie Turner would be good for the role of Amy, what do you guys think?

Gone series by Michael Grant (TV show) – I guess this would be a bit similar to Under the Dome, except that Gone would be with only kids of 15 or younger (or was it younger than 15 and everyone whose 15 or older was gone? I don’t remember). But honestly I haven’t seen Under the Dome, haven’t read it either, so I don’t know how similar it is to Gone – I just want Gone to be a TV show okay? Movies would be way too short to cover everything that happens in these books, and I guess that if you do a book a season(-ish) you would get at least six seasons?! Who I’d cast: I haven’t really thought about this to be honest, but I think that Thomas Brodie Sangster would be perfect for at least one of the roles in this movie because he literally looks like a teenager while he’s 25. Hahaha. And maybe Elle Fanning as Astrid? Or AnnaSophia Robb.

Say Her Name by James Dawson (Movie) – Creepy book would make an even creepier horror movie, yes I am not a huge fan of horror movies, but I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely want to check out the movie if there is going to be one (or just any movie about Bloody Mary but you know this book was just nice so I would want this version of the Bloody Mary story to be made into a movie). Who I’d Cast: Chloe Grace Moretz maybe as Bobbie or perhaps even as Mary because she can totally pull off the whole creepy girl in a white dress thing. And I’d cast Rosa Salazar as Naya!

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray (TV show) – Honestly, I haven’t even finished this book, but I thought to myself – this could make a good TV show. Lost meets Beauty Pageants I guess. I don’t really know what else to say about it, because I haven’t finished the book (nor have I watched Lost), but yes Beauty Queens the TV series would be cool. Who I’d cast: I really wouldn’t know. Just insanely pretty girls I guess. I think Katherine McNamara would be a good actress for one of the roles.

Tomorrow series by John Marsden (TV show) – There is a movie out based on the first book, and I enjoyed it very much, but the rest of the series will most likely not be made into movies – at least not with the cast from the first movie. Which is a shame, because I like that cast. Anyway, even though these books are thin – a lot happens in them so I guess a TV show would be better than movies. Yeah. Let’s do this. Who I’d cast: Lindsay Morgan as Ellie perhaps, I thought she’d be good for Cinder as well – but then I remembered Chloe Bennet. So yeah, Lindsay would probably make a cool Ellie too! Teresa Palmer could make a good Fi.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (Movie) – I just adored this book, and I really want to see move movies like this – and I just want a Rainbow Rowell book to be made into a movie, okay? (I want all of the ones that I’ve read to be made into movies, shh). Who I’d cast: I actually went and googled ‘celebrities who look alike’ to find two actresses who are so similar they could get away with playing twins. And one website mentioned Emily Kinney and Evanna Lynch. And though they don’t look SUPER similar, hair dye and make up and stuff can take care of that and thus have I adopted them as Cath and Wren (Evanna would be Cath and Emily would be Wren, I think).

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas (TV show) – Does it need explaining? This book is just wow and yes and I need a TV show of this – because I don’t think a movie would be able to add all the elements of this book. Or maybe they will? Hmm, anyway either would be awesome – a movie, a tv show – just make Dangerous Girls into something I can watch okay?! Who I’d cast: Haven’t actually thought about it, and honestly don’t really remember what any of the characters looked like, oops?!

Existing TV shows/movies that deserve better

2 june 2015 - 03

Delirium by Lauren Oliver (TV, or possibly a movie series) – Oh I was so excited for Delirium to be a TV series, that is until I watched the pilot. They literally crammed the entire first book into a 45 minute episode, and that just made me think ‘no wonder your show didn’t get picked up’. I am giving them another chance though, they can just remake it and make it into a good show or perhaps just drop the whole TV show thing and make movies out of the series. They can even use the novellas for some scenes and – yes, just do the thing!

Vampire Academy (TV series) – I watched the movie before I read the book and maybe shouldn’t have done that. The movie wasn’t what I’d call amazing (it wasn’t bad either it was just… meh). But even so, there are six books in the VA series, there is the Bloodlines series – which is a spin-off. There are a lot of possibilities! Just make it into a good TV series okay? (Let’s ignore the fact that we already have The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and True Blood, shhhh).

Harry Potter (TV series) – Don’t get me wrong, I really love the movies, but they are so flawed. First of all the fact that the first four have different directors – and they missed so many opportunities with certain parts of the books and certain characters. Harry Potter will always be my ‘baby’, but I would rather have it made into a (long-running? and hopefully accurate) TV series than have these flawed movies. (Also I wouldn’t recast most of the cast, though for the previous generation (aka Lupin, Sirius Black, Snape, Lily, James etc etc) I’d choose actors who were more their age because even though I love all these actors they were all way too old to play those characters).

The Host (TV series) – This book is 800 pages. And they made it into a 2 hour movie. A lot of stuff got cut, a lot of stuff was weird and yeah I just didn’t really like the movie anymore after I finished reading the book (which is a surprise for me because 800 pages + Stephenie Meyer having written it, wow). I think the Host would make a much better TV series, but hey that’s just me!

Percy Jackson (movies) – Oh Percy Jackson, you deserved so much better. The first movie was blegh, the second movie was meh, and then they just decided to NOT do the third movie after ending Sea of Monsters with the Thalia-cliffhanger. Why? Can’t we just get Rick Riordan to write the scripts for the movies and then have actors who are accurate looking and actually the same age as the characters are?! (Nothing against the actors in both movies, but it just changed too much imo).

So yeah this is my quite detailed post of the books I want to see being made into either movies or TV shows. What are your chosen ones? Let me know in a comment!
