Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten books if you like Doctor Who

tttuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has a different subject every week. This week’s subject is Top Ten books you should read if you like X (a tv show, movie, video game, etc). I chose Doctor Who, and I will promise you that I won’t use all ten spots for Doctor Who novels! The first five are books in the same genre as Doctor Who (so science-fiction), and the last five are Doctor Who novels that I personally loved a lot! Like with the unique books TTT I will give a short explanation as to why I recommend these books.

Let’s start with some non-Doctor Who books, shall we?!

01. Across the Universe series by Beth Revis

It happens in space! And the main character is a red-haired girl called Amy (coincidence, I think not? (no okay that might be, I have no idea)).

02. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

More space! Also it’s funny! Also Martin Freeman stars in the movie!

03. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Aliens. Who take over earth. And an awesome heroine determined to save her little brother. Did I mention aliens?!

04. Coraline, or anything else by Neil Gaiman

Neil Gaiman wrote two of the best Doctor Who episodes. Also he writes awesome books!

05. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Fairy tale retellings, but in the future. And in space! (The Doctor Who companions are often compared to fairy tale characters; Rose = Red Riding Hood, Martha = Dorothy, Donna = Alice, Amy = Wendy).

And now onto the Doctor Who novels. I haven’t read a lot of them, but here are my absolute favourites!

06. Touched by an Angel by Johnathan Morris

The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Weeping Angels, and a man determined to save his wife.

07. Shroud of Sorrow by Tommy Donbavand

The Eleventh Doctor and Clara (Oswin) Oswald. Also, clowns called Wobblebottom and a planet filled with ‘hobbit holes’.

08. The Stone Rose by Jacqueline Raynor

The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler, in ancient Rome. A girl who can ‘see the future’, and some very very good statues. Also all your wishes will come true.

09. The Silent Stars Go By by Dan Abnett

The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Ice Warriors, a new planet and snow. Lots and lots of snow.

10. Only Human by Gareth Roberts

The Ninth Doctor, Rose Tyler and Captain. Jack. Harkness. (Naked (not all of them, just Jack)). Also a Neanderthal in the 21st century and zombie people in the Neanderthal time.

And that was my list for this week, what is your subject? Leave a link to your blog post in the comments!
