Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has a different subject every week. This week’s subject is ‘Favourite Books in X Genre’, and I’ve chosen a mix of Fantasy and Science-Fiction, because I love those two genre’s the most. The list is in no particular order. (The first five are Fantasy, and the last five are Sci-Fi).
I read part of the first book when I was fifteen, and I really really liked it then. Of course, I was already a big fan of the movies by then and I just wanted to read the books as well. Last year I finally got myself to read the books, and though it took me a while to finish it (because it was so much), I did love them a lot.
I grew up with this book series, so it would be an abomination to not add it to my list. I got the first book in 2001, around the time the first movie came out, and I was sold. I currently own both the Dutch and the English versions of the books, and I have read them so much I could practically quote the entire series. I loved the movies as well, but the books will always be better.
I did the wrong thing by watching the movie before I read the book. At first, I liked the movie, but after reading The Lightning Thief, I realised that the book was so much better. So I read the rest of the series, and I fell in love. Percy Jackson was actually the series that got me into Mythology, though at the moment I’m more a Norse mythology fan than a Greek mythology. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new series by Rick Riordan, the Heroes of Olympus.
I found out about this book series when the first movie was announced. I bought it at the Book Depository, and read it almost within a day. After finishing it, I immediately purchased both Catching Fire and Mockingjay and I sold my soul to this series. I have read the books multiple times now and I can’t wait to see Mockingjay coming to life on the big screen at the end of this year!
Though I loved the Lord of the Rings ever since I was nine or ten years old, I only found out about the Hobbit when the first movie was announced a couple of years ago. I purchased a copy of the book in 2012, read it and fell in love. I loved all the dwarves, I loved Bilbo, and Gandalf. I loved the movies as well, and because of that I fell in love with all the characters even more. The last movie, coming out in December this year, will probably break my heart though.
Not really sure what made me pick up this book actually, probably the whole space-travel part, but I ended up loving it so much. I’m just a sucker for stories that happen in space, whiee!
I bought this book at first because there was a Harry Potter reference, and ended up loving this book to bits. Mainly because it featured one of my favourite companions (Amy, of course); and I really like the Weeping Angels (though I also hate them). I just loved this book and I wish they had made it into an episode (or perhaps a two-parter).
I think this was my first Doctor Who book; I was one of the winners of a scavenger hunt at a Doctor Who fanday and I was allowed to choose my price, of course being the book hoarder that I am I picked a book. I mainly chose this one, because it featured Rose, which is my other favourite companion, and the Tenth Doctor, which is my favourite Doctor. And I loved this story so much!
The fact that this story featured aliens, made me add it to my to-read list. And wow what a story it was. It was such a thrilling story, with awesome characters, amazing action and a tiny bit of romance (which is okay). And yeah, I just can’t wait for the second book in this series because I want moooooooooooore!
At first, I didn’t like this book very much. But then I watched the movie, and I could understand it better, and I really loved it. I bought the entire Hitchhiker’s boxset on Bol.com for only ten euros, because I wanted to try it out, and I can’t wait to start reading the second book in the series!
