Best of the Year

Best of 2013: Best Songs Released

released songs

And list number two! This one is about my favourite songs that have been released this year. Of course, most songs are from the albums in the previous post, but there are at least two songs that either have no album, or songs that were the only songs that I liked from an album. Anyway, here are the ten best songs of 2013 in my opinion. I have sorted them in alphabetical order of the artist.

01. 30 Seconds to Mars – City of Angels | Lust, Love, Faith + Dreams

Like I said in my previous post, I wasn’t really a big fan of this album, though it is on the list, but there were some songs that I really liked (that’s why it’s on the list). City of Angels is one of them. Though the title reminds me of a Mortal Instruments book (though that’s called City of Fallen Angels but idc), I just really like this song. I never actually knew it had a video until I looked up the song for this post, and though I don’t really like people talking through the music at some points, and the music stopping to make place for the people talking, I really like the video, because it’s just really awesome. I don’t really know what else to say about it.

02. The Blackout – Start the Party | Start the Party

This was the first song I heard from this album, and also the song that made me fall in love with the Blackout all over again. It’s just a typical Blackout song, in my opinion, and the video makes me want to party!

03. Christina Aguilera – We Remain | Catching Fire Soundtrack

Like with the Hunger Games last year, Lionsgate made an album with songs written for Catching Fire. I had grown to like the previous album, after I found out that I didn’t know any of the artists on it, and this year it was a bit different. There were some well known artists on this album, including Coldplay and Lorde, but I ended up liking only this song by Christina Aguilera. I just couldn’t get myself to listen to any of the other sings with pleasure, I just didn’t like any of them, until I got to We Remain, which actually gave me goosebumps.

04. Doctor Who – The Long Song (sung by Emilia Jones) | Series 7 Soundtrack

The moment I heard this song in the episode, I got goosebumps. The speech by the Eleventh Doctor during this song actually made me sob, and I just love this song so much. The one on the soundtrack sounds a bit different than the version from the episode, but that doesn’t make it less awesome. I have added the scene where this song was used (or well a fanvideo, with some old footage of Doctor Who added in several moments). Try to watch this without bawling your eyes out.

05. Doctor Who – Together or Not At All | Series 7 Soundtrack

The song from the Angels take Manhattan that made me want to curl up in a ball and sob for hours. And that’s why it’s on this list! Haha, no, I also loved this song very much, even though it reminds me of that particular scene every time. Amy and Rory were the first companions I saw on the TV, so they felt kinda special to me, and when they left, I felt quite sad for a couple of weeks. I just both love and hate this scene and song, and that is why it’s on my list!

06. Ed Sheeran – I See Fire | Desolation of Smaug Soundtrack

When I first heard Ed Sheeran was going to make the song for the endcredits, I was a bit sceptical, because I hadn’t really liked his music, even when I heard this song for the first time, I still wasn’t sure (I liked it, but I wasn’t sure if it was going to fit Desolation of Smaug) but when I saw the movie for the first time, and heard the song afterwards, I began to love it. It is now probably my most played song this month, because I just kept it on repeat.

07. Frozen – Let It Go (sung by Idina Menzel) | Frozen Soundtrack

I first watched the movie somewhere last week, and though I love all the songs in this movie, I loved Let it Go the most, because it’s just such an awesome song, and I loved the scene with all the ice-magic and ohhhhhh I just LOVE IT!

08. The Maine – Take What You Can Carry | Forever Halloween

Not only is this my most played song of this album, it’s also the one I liked the best (obvious, of course). I haven’t erally listened to the rest of the album much (I had a soundtrack mood for a couple of months), but I just loved it. There’s not really anything else I can say about it.

09. Only Seven Left – Tonight Will Be the Night | No Album

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything new from my favourite band, but then suddenly there was this song. They’d gone to the Lennon Bus and played this song and made a video of it. The actual studio-version will sound completely different of course, but I just love this version so much. I’m happy to have some new OSL music to listen to!

10. Paramore – Still Into You | Paramore

I just love this album a lot, but Still Into You has just got to be my favourite of them all. I hadn’t watched the video before I looked it up for this list, but it just makes me want to jump and dance, and it just makes me really happy. Whcih of course fits the song, because the song makes me really happy as well. In fact, the entire album makes me happy when I listen to it! I would love to see them perform these songs live, next year (*crosses fingers*).

And that was my second Best of 2013 list. Stay tuned for the third one tomorrow!
