Review: Beauty and the Beast (2017)

A couple of years ago, Disney started remaking some of their classic movies into live action versions. There were rumours already that they were planning on doing Beauty and the Beast as well, with Emma Watson as Belle. But the news never came, until suddenly it was officially announced that they were doing BATB and they did cast Emma as the main character. All of a sudden we had trailers, pictures and then the movie was there. Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a prince who had been cursed by a witch to look like a hideous beast. The only way to break the curse was if he could …

Review: Logan

I’ll be honest with you – I was not looking forward to this movie at all. The previous two Wolverine movies were such let-downs, and I was even less excited when I found out this would be Hugh’s last performance as the character. I really just wanted this movie to be good because I wanted Hugh to have the Wolverine movie he deserved. Now that I have seen the movie, twice I must add, I can officially say Logan is a worthy goodbye for the actor who has given seventeen years of his life to this franchise. It’s the year 2029, and Mutants are all but extinct. …

Review: Brimstone

As a Christmas present, I told my mum she could pick out any movie she wanted to see, and I would take her to that movie. At first, we’d decided on Collateral Beauty, but the closest cinema was showing it at some shitty times. Eventually, mum picked Brimstone, a movie I hadn’t really heard much about but had been curious about as well. Brimstone tells us the story of Liz, and her history with a man we only know as The Reverend. Divided into four chapters, we learn more about why Liz, a mute woman, is so afraid of this man. As I had said before, my interest …

Review: Assassin’s Creed

First of all, I want to say that I haven’t played any of the Assassin’s Creed games, so I will not be comparing the two. (And even if I had played the games, I wouldn’t be doing it, because honestly, I think it’s like comparing a book to its movie adaptation because they will never be exactly the same). I first heard about this movie being made somewhere at the end of 2015 or the beginning of 2016. I’d heard of the games, of course, but never really paid attention to them, because I knew my computer wouldn’t be able to handle them. When Michael Fassbender got cast as the main …

Review: Rogue One, A Star Wars Story

Around this time last year, I watched my first Star Wars movie ever. I had never really been into those movies when I was a kid, but eventually, I decided to give in to the hype. Who knew that a year later, I would be almost first in line for the new movie, Rogue One? This in-between movie, which takes place a little before A New Hope (1977) finally tells the story of how the rebels got their hands on the plans for the Empire’s newest superweapon, the Death Star. We follow Jyn Erso, whose father is one of the people responsible for the weapon. Honestly, I …

Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

About two years ago, J.K. Rowling announced there was going to be a movie about the book Harry and his classmates used for Care of Magical Creatures class, or rather its author, Newt Scamander. Bit by bit we learned more about this upcoming movie series, and this year it was finally time for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This first movie in the series takes place in New York, which I thought was very exciting. After years of only British Wizarding communities, we were finally going to learn more about the rest of the world. And it would take place in the 1920’s, which …

Review: Blair Witch

Back in the early 2000’s, I watched a movie called The Blair Witch Project which at that point scared me so much, I had to sleep in my sister’s room because I couldn’t get myself to make the two-step journey to my own room. I was convinced the movie was a documentary, and that the people in it had actually been murdered by the Blair Witch. (Of course, when I found out it wasn’t a real docu, years later, I was pissed). Several sequels have been made, I believe, but I only watched one of those (and it wasn’t as creepy as the original one), but this year …
