Review: Sleeping Giants

I don’t remember when I first heard about this book, but I was recently reminded of this book’s existence through someone’s booktube video, where it was compared to Illuminae, a book I loved to bits. Then, I saw part two – Waking Gods – on NetGalley and decided I was going to get that and buy a copy of the first book. Honestly, I wish I hadn’t bothered. Sleeping Giants tells us the story of Rose Franklin, who one day goes for a ride on her bicycle and ends up finding a giant robot hand. Years later she’s the head of a team trying to find …

Review: Wonder Woman: Warbringer

Somewhere last year, I read an article about upcoming YA novels based on certain DC characters. Y’all know I’ve mostly been a Marvel girl, so I wasn’t too interested in this news. But when I read that Leigh Bardugo (author of the Six of Crows duology and the Grisha trilogy) was going to write a book about Wonder Woman, I knew I had to read that book – whether I liked Wonder Woman or not. (Luckily, when the movie came out, I fell in love with Diana, Princess of Themyscira, so that made reading this book a little easier). Wonder Woman: Warbringer tells the story of a young Diana, …

Review: The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

I first heard of The Diabolic through BookTube. I believe it was a book featured in a subscription box, and lots of people on BookTube had received this box and thus hauled the book. What intrigued me the most wasn’t the synopsis (though that sounded interesting), it was the comparison to The Hunger Games and Star Wars. I was wondering how those two could be combined and added the book to my TBR. Around the time the book was released, a friend was kind enough to gift me an ARC copy of the book, and I told myself I would pick it up asap. But, of course, …

Review: HEX

I believe I first heard about this book from the Dutch book scene, and it intrigued me because it’s one of the few Dutch books I know that got translated into English. People called this book creepy, said they couldn’t sleep anymore after finishing and had to sleep with the lights on. I’d been wanting to read a good horror book, even though I am a big pussy, but had been severely disappointed so far. I borrowed my sister’s copy and dove straight into this book – hoping that I would finally have found the one book that would actually creep me out. But, again, I was …

Review: The Circle

I think I first heard about this book around the time the movie was announced. I was quite intrigued by the summary and decided to get myself a copy a while back. But then, I read a couple of pages and couldn’t really get into it. So I put it down again, hoping to pick it up before the movie came out. About a week before its release, I picked up The Circle again and had to force myself past those couple of pages – thinking it would probably all get more interesting later on… It didn’t. This book, this chunk of a book. This …

Review: The One Memory of Flora Banks

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This has not changed my opinion in any way. A while ago, I started hearing a lot of things about a book called The One Memory of Flora Banks, and the title surely stayed in my head for a while. When I saw it available for request, I decided to go ahead and request it. I thought it would be a cool mystery book, and I decided not to read the synopsis before diving into this book. The One Memory of Flora Banks is about Flora, who has been unable to …

Review: The Force Awakens (Novel)

In December 2015, the newest Star Wars movie was released. Named “The Force Awakens” it introduced us to new characters and brought back some of the old characters as well. For me, TFA was the movie that made me fall in love with the Star Wars franchise, and Rey and Finn are amongst my favourite characters in the whole wide universe of characters. So I was pretty excited to find out this movie, as well as its predecessors, had a novelization. Obviously, The Force Awakens novel follows the same plot as the movie, only this time in words. It’s been approximately 30 years since Darth Vader was defeated, …
